WinSystems PC/104 Products

WinSystems designs and manufactures single board computers and expansion cards that function as embedded PC's in OEM and industrial applications. Our product lines include PC/104, PC/104-Plus, EBX, STD Bus and stand alone computer technologies. We recently added new development kits for DOS, Linux, Windows CE and Windows XP Embedded to aid customers in the product designs.

Product Line Overview and Definitions

PC/104 (aka PC104) and PC/104-Plus (aka PC104+, PC104-Plus) system components are small, 3.6" x 3.8", computer system modules used in a variety of embedded applications. These self-stacking boards can be used as standalone modules, mounted on top of another PC/104 module, or stacked above a single board computer (SBC) in a mezzanine fashion. PC/104 is simply the PC ISA bus repackaged for industrial use, with the PC/104's drive capability limited to about 4mA. The PC/104-Plus is the PCI implementation of PC/104; it adds a 120-pin connector directly across from the PC/104's 104-pin connector to support the 33MHz PCI bus. WinSystems offers a variety of input/output (I/O) modules and single board computers in our product lines.

WinSystems builds SBCs with Intel and AMD x86-compatible processors to support industry standard software such as Linux, Embedded Linux, Windows® XPe, and DOS plus other PC-compatible Operating Systems / Real-time Operating Systems (RTOS). WinSystems' EmbeddedPCs are available in the following sizes and formats, all are based on industry standards; EBX 5.75" x 8.00", EPIC 4.5" x 6.5", PC/104 and PC/104-Plus 3.6" x 3.8", and STD Bus 4.5" x 6.5". Each SBC provides an extensive amount of on board I/O support; however, more I/O expansion is offered with the addition of wired or wireless Ethernet, USB, PC/104, SUMIT modules.

CompactFlash (aka CF and CFlash) is a small, removable mass storage device used for both commercial and industrial applications. CF cards are a worldwide industry standard standard which have been shipping since 1995. They have a storage capacity of up to 16GB. A CF card contains an onboard intelligent controller that manages interface protocols, data storage, and retrieval as well as ECC, defect handling and diagnostics, power management and clock control. CF modules can emulate an IDE hard drive. This mode is electrically compatible with an IDE disk drive which makes it possible to support an operating system without a special flash driver. CF is also removable by design and makes a good solution for applications that require data removal or easy software upgrades.

Defined by the Small Form Factor Special Interest Group (SFF-SIG), SUMIT™ (Stackable Unified Modular Interface Technology) is an electromechanical connector specification which efficiently integrates high- and low-speed serial and legacy expansion buses for next-generation, low-power embedded systems. This compact, rugged, and stackable I/O-centric interconnect standard uses two, 52-pin, high-density connectors; and is both form factor and processor independent. WinSystems currently offers SUMIT-based products for these form factors: PC/104 (3.6" x 3.8") EPIC, EBX, and the ultra compact Pico-I/O.

WinSystems' 6.5-, 12.1, and 15-inch open-frame Panel PCs provide crisp image quality for HMI industrial applications and supports operating systems such as Linux and Windows® XP embedded, plus x86 architecture real-time kernels. The combination of embedded PC functionality and industrial-grade construction makes these units ideal for industrial automation and control applications with tight system integration and minimal space requirements. Each Panel PC includes a color TFT flat panel display, PC-compatible SBC with Ethernet, and touchscreen components which are integrated into an open-frame enclosure. All units offer extended temperature operation of -20° to +70°C.

First introduced in 1978, the IEEE-961-approved microcomputer STD Bus is still in use by key industrial customers. Its simple interface, small card size (4.5" x 6.5"), and strong card mounts tolerate shock and vibrations making this architecture ideal for rugged environments. WinSystems continues to meet the needs of STD Bus customers by providing SBCs, I/O, and card cages for their embedded and DOS-compatible systems.
